2012 Reading Challenge Completed: My Recommedations

Hello to all my followers!  I am so very sorry for my abscence in the past month.  I was severely ill and hospitalized much of December.  I became functional just in time to leave for my Caribbean cruise last week.  I visited Bahamas, Curacao, and Aruba.  It was beautiful!  I will blog about the trip, in more detail, later this week.   I still need to blog about my beach stone and sea glass jewelry making too!  Stay tuned and I will get caught up.

I challenged myself to read 60 books in 2012 (10 more than 2011).  I narrowly met my goal (being so sick made me loose precious time), but I DID read 60.  My favorite genre this year was dystopia novels.  The Hunger Games turned me on to them.  If you liked Hunger Games, I suggest these Dystopia series:
  • The Giver By: Lois Lowry  (A classic!  You may have read it in school at some point)
  • Divergent and Insurgent By: Veronica Roth
  • The Uglies, Pretties, Specials, and Extras By: Scot Westerfeld
  • Matched, Crossed, and Reached (3rd book is coming out this year) By: Ally Condie
Other dystopia series (that I plan to read this year) are:
  • Crewel World series By: Gennifer Albin
  • Birthmarked Series By: Caragh M. O'Brien
  • Eve series By: Anna Carey
  • Ashfall series By: Mike Mullin

There are several others on my list as well.  If you are curious, I have them on my goodreads.com profile.   http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/5855946-breanna

Another genre I have loved is southern fiction.  This genre includes The Help and The Secret Life of Bees.  Some others to check out are:
  • Saving CeeCee Honeycutt By: Beth Hoffman
  • Flies on the Butter By: Denise Hildreth

As always, I also love my non-fiction animal related stories.  Some good ones I read in 2012 are:
  • Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Story of an Owl and His Girl  By: Stacey O'Brien
  • Until Tuesday  By: Luis Carlos Montalvan
  • Homer's Odyssey  By: Gwen Cooper

I am challenging myself to read 65 books in 2013.  Wish me luck!  =)   Happy reading to all my fellow bookworms.
