Cheap Entertainment

I decided to put some bird and squirrel feeders outside of our big windows.  My kitty Catalina loves to lay on the back of the couch to look outside, so I figured it would give her something fun to watch.  Turns out mommy and daddy enjoy looking out the window just as much as her now.   I have a corn cob holder for the squirrels and a hanging feeder for birds.  My mom told me that there is an over population of squirrels this year, because we didn't get our usual COLD winter.  This means many will die due to lack of food source.  I don't mind helping the little guys.  They sure are greedy!  They will eat their fill and then continue to take corn kernels to bury around the yard for later.  Catalina enjoys watching them bury their treasures.  I am limiting them with a certain amount of corn cobs per week.  Otherwise, they would cost me 100s!

We have had many brown finches, starlings, robins, black birds, and I was thrilled to find out we had some cardinal visitors.  I tried the humming bird feeder, but it just got spilled by racoons and overcome by ants.  We just don't have the best environment for it here.  In California I will have my humming birds.
 Our cardinal visitor =)
I hope to see some yellow finches and bluejays.  I am going to add thistle out there to attract the yellow ones. Blue jays should like the sunflower seeds.

Another thing I seem to be attracting this year is butterflies.  Every time I'm outside, one flies by me.  I was sitting in traffic today and one landed on my windshield!  Maybe its a sign?  Or just a gift from heaven...
I'll keep you posted on our feeder visitors!
