I have started an exercise program for this summer. It is SUPER hard for me, because of my pain and medical problems. I am probably pushing my bad foot beyond what I should, but if I am going to need more surgery, then I better get exercise while I can.
First, I tried my bike. This was miserable! I need to try a more comfy seat before I totally scrap that idea. I now walk 2 to 3 miles per day. Maybe it is limping 2 to 3 miles per day. Ha-ha. Every time I finish a walk, I am very proud of myself. The emotional pain of being overweight overrides my physical pain sometimes. I also have a summer pass to the public pool, for days that it is too hot to walk. I will swim laps there. Swimming is the most pain free option of exercise for me, because it doesn't put weight on my terrible joints. It is just not an easy access sport in Chicago. The health club is very expensive. Hopefully I will not have too many days where the diseases win, so that I can feel better about myself.
For my walking/biking, I have been using a workout tracking application on my phone. It GPS maps your route and keeps track of distance, calories burned, etc. I started out using map my walk, but the GPS tracking did not work well. I now use Cardio Trainer and that maps me in nice straight lines. I like that it makes exercise more of a game than work. I also make it more enjoyable with music and I stop to take pictures of pretty things I see.
Wish me lucky with this journey and pray my body lets me keep it up!
