Beach in a Light Bulb

This was a tricky, but cool project.  I am going to give you this link for instructions on gutting the light bulb.  There are very good picture instructions there.  I suggest wearing gloves, glasses, and working over a trash can.  I did end up breaking my first bulb.

Supplies you need:
  • Clear light bulb (or a few in case you break some).
  • Safety glasses or regular glasses
  • Gloves
  • Flat head screw driver
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Rubber bumpers (or metal snaps like I used as feet)
  • Plants, sand, rocks, shells, miniatures to decorate your little world

Make sure to read the DOs and DON'Ts in the link above.

The small air plant I ordered for this project ended up not being small enough, so I will be looking for a new one to fit into this terrarium.  It still looks neat with just beach stuff and the dog.

I used these metal snaps as feet for my bulb, to prevent it from rolling.

I displayed it with my shells, sea glass, and beach books in my coastal bedroom.
