My mom and I attended a fairy garden workshop today at The Growing Place in Naperville, IL. It was such a nice way to spend the day together. The first workshop was building your own fairy garden. They had all the supplies available and you just had to pay for what you picked. The second workshop was making fairy garden furniture out of clay. These pieces will be fired in a kiln and then we can paint them. I will blog the little furniture separately, when it is finished.
First, we walked around to look at all the fairy gardens that had been set up around the nursery. They had a little scavenger hunt for it. This helped give us some inspiration for our own designs.
Then we built our own gardens....
Mom's garden
These gardens can be planted in a variety of containers. My mom chose the biodegradable bowl and I chose a tin bucket. I will also be making another garden in an old dresser drawer (I will blog that with my clay furniture).
Mom's will be finished off with her handmade clay furniture. The little plant in the wheel barrel is a succulent called Chicks and hens.
My Garden
Rat for my fairy to ride, gazing ball, and fairy. The purple flower plant, next to the gord house, is Bugleweed.
Fairy and Frog friend. The plant to the left of the fairy is Scotch moss.
Gord house and stone path
This plant with the pom-poms is called Armeria.
I don't have a name for the ground cover in front of the gate.
Here is an older fairy garden, of mine, that I blogged here awhile back. I may connect these two gardens with a bridge or a ladder.
The supplies for these gardens can also be found online. I have seen some cute stuff on etsy.com. You can also get creative and make your own with clay or wood. Most craft stores sell stuff for doll houses and those little things are great for these gardens as well.
Stay tuned for the blog on the clay furniture! I also have couple more garden topic posts coming soon. I hope you enjoyed this one!
