Beach Finds

We all know I LOVE everything beach.  I made a beach day out of the Memorial Day holiday.  My dad just moved into a new apartment that is 2 blocks from the beach, so I have easy access to parking.  It wasn't the ocean, but Lake Michigan, here in Chicago, is beautiful.  It is easy to pretend I am somewhere by the ocean.  I was thrilled to find a good haul of sea glass!   I tend to forget that the ocean is not the only place to find some.  Any body of water with waves and a current is good for producing nice sea glass.  If you want to know more about sea glass, here is a previous blog I wrote about it.  I picked up a bunch of other "treasures" for my Chicago beach jar as well (I have a jar for all of the places I have visited. Here is the blog about those).  There are an abundance of cool rocks on the shores of the lake.  I found a lot of smooth slate stones. I kept  some bottle caps and the champagne stopper, because it gives my beach jar an "urban beach" feel. It will look good with my public transportation tickets and other Chicago memorabilia.
There are some neat things that set Chicago beaches apart from tropical beaches...

City skylines

 Ice cream carts
 Graffiti art

I recently found some fun "beachy" stuff in Target's dollar section too.  I got several things for my beach themed bedroom.
These little gift boxes that are fantastic for holding shell collections.
I grabbed these coasters/trays to hold some small things on my night stand.
They have a bunch of these wall signs with different sayings on them.  There was also a non-beach one I got for my bathroom.
Dream, faith, hope...

I put this one in my kitchen for guests to see.  It looks cute with my crab magnet from Florida.

I hope everyone else enjoyed their holiday!
