I spotted an old window on someone's curb, during trash day, a few years ago. I was immediately drawn to making art out of it. I decided to turn it into a frame for my Caribbean vacation pictures.
Supplies needed:
- An old, wood framed window
- Paint (spray or brush on)
- Painters tape
- Newspaper
- Mod Podge glue
- Sponge brush
- Computer paper
- Printer with color ink
- Digital photos
Instructions:
- Clean up the window as you wish. I had to scrape paint of the panes of mine and then clean the glass with Windex. I chose not to sand the wood, because I like the weathered look.
- Tape newspaper over the glass panes, so that the new paint does not get on them.
- Paint the wood with your choice of paint (I used spray paint), then let it dry.
- Remove the newspaper and tape from the glass.
- Print out the pictures you would like to use inside the frame. Cut them and arrange them to your liking.
- Paint the glass with the mod podge glue from the backside of the window. Lay your pictures face down, onto the glue, in the arrangement you picked (the glue will dry clear). Once they are all laid down, paint another layer of mod podge glue over the back of the pictures. Essentially, both sides of the paper will be saturated with the glue. Once you feel they are glued smoothly to your window panes, let them dry completely.
- Add brackets to the back for hanging on a wall.
- Enjoy!
You can try using photo paper instead of plain computer paper, but I can't guarantee how it will turn out. I have not tried it that way. You can also choose not to paint the wood of your window, if you like the way you found it. You can also hot glue trinkets or pieces of nature onto the frame, like I did. I used sea shells from my trip.
